Diane and Bob's...

The sketchers were invited to Diane and Bob's on a drizzly afternoon.  Judi, Serrafina and Julie and another Diane sketched at the dining room table.  In the corner was this charming orchid filled cart.

Timbuktu

Timbuktu? Yes, well, the local one.  It's a coffee bar and gallery in Freeland.  Great spot to eat gluten free delicious goodies, drink great coffee and for the sketchers, to sketch.  Lauren warmly welcomed us last Wednesday.  Caught a sketch of Phyllis sitting opposite in a comfy chair, focusing on her own sketching.

Just Toys

Very little time, a very small piece, less than 6 inches square.   A very short visit to the Greenbank Store in Greenbank, WA on Whidbey resulted in one sketch...a fuzzy bear in a basket of toys. Cute.

Surreptitiously

A patron at the Edgecliff. There is a stange feeling of furtiveness in trying to draw a subject without disturbing him., or even letting him know you are drawing him. One tries to be inconspicuous...I am reminded of the spy flicks where two spies sit on back to back benches with newspapers to hide their conversation... (I suppose these days they will act like they are talking on their Blackberries).
My subjects are picked by how still they sit and how close to finished they are with their orders...nobody told me about this part of art.

Daytripping

The Sketchers decided to take the ferry to Port Townsend to sketch...while waiting for the boat at Keystone, I went to the beach and caught this image. I was glad I did because I found, much to my chagrin, that drawing on the rolling ferry has much the same effect as reading in a car... alas, no sketches from the boat. It was a fairly cold, overcast but calm day that I tried to capture in this sketch. Loved the birds on the tops of the pilings. Pencil.

Beginnings

Just as one hates to be the last to know, one hates to be the last to post ones own work on the web! A great group of local artists called Whidbey Island Sketchers has a blog and a few of my things are posted there. Although I joined the group many months ago, my attendance has been sketchy (ouch) but what little I have done has appeared on their site. I wanted to post my sketches on my main blog, but after some reflection, I decided to keep my painting and my sketching separate. Hence this new blog....
This was done on my first foray into the experience of group sketching. We met at the Edgecliff and the artist next to me (Pat, I think) had ordered a beer...
